We start with an old, beat-up, acoustic guitar, something like an aging Stella (our personal favorites!) Kay, Harmony, True Tone or Silvertone. The more elderly and weathered the better. These old parlor-sized and (in their day) cheap guitars from stores such as Sears & Western Auto make for some of the best slide instruments ever produced.

Next, we begin the rehab process, tricking the instrument out, bringing new life to a music machine that has more often than not been left for dead.
We fix small cracks and imperfections, strip down the finish and re-apply, replace tuners, level frets and make the instrument playable. The soundhole is widened, electrics of your choice are installed, and a variety of sound posts are affixed within the body of the instrument for maximum acoustics.
Last comes the secret weapon.....The Catbowl Resonator

The Doughboy stumbled across this creation quite by accident, and so far The Catbowl Resonators have met with rave reviews. Not a "true resonator" per se, the Catbowl Resonating Device is more of a sound projector, altering the tone and timbre of the instrument, giving it that much-sought-after sound of a Delta Blues machine straight from a 1930s juke joint. Variations include the Garbage Disposal Drain Resonator and Aluminum Pie Pan Resonator guitars.
The Doughboy once even used an empty Dinty Moore stew can as a soundwell.
